“We are ashamed that the president of the United States of America is from Texas”, is the main statement that everyone will remember. They have gotten so much grief just for saying that small phrase, but did Pink get that much grief when she wrote her song? Did Kanye West get grief when he spoke out on national television? Why were the Dixie Chicks the only ones who got all the grief? Nobody has the right to go ahead and say that they are the “dumbest bimbos” and that they are “foolish women who deserve to be slapped around”. What happened to freedom of speech? She did not hurt anyone from saying the things that she said.
How could something as small as that push people so over the edge that they would send threats and boycott their songs from the radio?
Why didn't Kanye West's statement get any attention to it? His was much more racial and offensive than Natalie's was. Natalie's statement was nothing compared to his, but Kanye's statement on how “George Bush doesn't care about black people”, how could that not effect the world but Natalie's statement does? What is so different about the two statements that made one get more attention than the other did?
